Future Initiatives

Project Allsmiles Inc. is developing additional programs to address oral health disparities across the lifespan, beginning with elderly and homebound populations.

In Development

Project Tooth Fairies for the Elderly

As the U.S. population ages, oral health needs among elderly individuals are growing significantly. Many older adults — particularly those who are homebound, in assisted living, or lacking dental insurance — experience untreated decay, dry mouth complications, periodontal disease, and oral-systemic health interactions.

Research consistently demonstrates links between poor oral health in elderly populations and systemic conditions including cardiovascular disease, pneumonia, diabetes complications, and cognitive decline.

Project Tooth Fairies for the Elderly is in early development and will aim to deliver mobile preventive oral health services to homebound elderly individuals, assisted living facilities, and senior centers in San Diego County.

Aging Population

The number of adults aged 65 and older is projected to nearly double by 2060. Many will face significant oral health challenges without adequate access to preventive care.

Oral-Systemic Connection

Poor oral health in elderly populations is linked to aspiration pneumonia, cardiovascular events, diabetes complications, and reduced quality of life.

Homebound Care Gaps

Homebound seniors and assisted living residents often have no access to dental care. Mobile preventive services can address this gap directly.

Note: Project Tooth Fairies for the Elderly is currently in the planning and development phase. Formal program launch is contingent on partnership development and funding acquisition. No services are currently being delivered under this initiative.
